Anne Fadiman is an author, essayist, editor, and teacher. As the inaugural Francis Writer in Residence, Yale University’s first endowed appointment in nonfiction writing, she serves as both a professor in the English department and a mentor to writing and editing students. For seven years she edited The American Scholar. Her essays and articles have appeared in Harper’s, The New Yorker, and The New York Times, among many other publications. She has won National Magazine Awards for both reporting and essays. In 2012 she was awarded the Richard H. Brodhead Prize for Teaching Excellence from Yale University and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015.
